Sun sign, Moon sign and nakshatra

Why the Moon?

Western horoscopes use the Sun sign, which changes once a month. Vedic astrology reads the Moon sign, which changes every two to two and a half days — so it is far more personal. It is the sign used for your rashifal, Sade Sati and kundli matching.

What is a nakshatra?

The zodiac is also divided into 27 nakshatras (lunar mansions) of 13°20′ each, and each has four padas. Your birth nakshatra sets the order of your Vimshottari dashas and is the basis of several kootas in guna milan.

Why birth time matters

The Moon moves about one degree every two hours. Near the edge of a sign or nakshatra, a few minutes can change the result, and the calculator warns you when that happens. Your lagna changes about every two hours and needs a full kundli.
